Talk about players who know their former teams well enough and you are bound to count Ian Wright as one. The Arsenal F.C. legend has been talking about the situation at his former club and seems to really like the latest developments there.
Wright believes that Unai Emery is changing a few but very vital things already at the Emirates which were a problem for Arsene Wenger to handle during his time.
One of those is the fact that some players were seen as untouchable and that lack of discipline at the club was reflected on the pitch.
Wright has pointed out the fact that in his short time in charge of the team, Unai has shown that he will not condone such acts as he dropped Aaron Ramsey and took off those who are not performing during games.
The coach also replaced Granit Xhaka at half-time following a poor first half performance against Chelsea.
He then went on to take off Mesut Ozil with 20 minutes to go in the game despite the fact that the game was still up for grabs at that stage.
According to Ian Wright:
“What was encouraging was that he made those substitutions, big substitutions for me. Xhaka would have stayed on under Wenger and so would Ozil.“ And what’s that said now in that dressing is that ‘no one’s going to be safe.“ ‘If you don’t do what we need you to do, you’re coming off’ and I’m pleased to see that.”
In summary, Unai is fully in control of the affairs of the team. And as far as the former Gunner is concerned, that shows that Arsenal F.C. is into a new era that looks very promising indeed.
