As Real Madrid hosts Leganes in a LaLiga match today, the fans will have the opportunity to finally see their newly acquired goalkeeper and the Golden Gloves winner of the 2018 World Cup Competition, Thibaut Courtois take position between the posts in his first game for the European Champions.
Since the beginning of the season in Spain, Real’s Manager, Julen Lopetegui has kept faith in his number one goalkeeper Keylor Navas who by the way, has just been declared as the best goalkeeper of the last edition of the Champions League.
Courtois has had to patiently wait for this opportunity since joining the team and has been training with the group for more than three weeks.
Real Madrid players claimed a good number of awards at the EUFA Champions League Awards Gala that took place in Monaco.
Apart from Keylor Navas, there were awards for Ramos and Modric and the now ex-player of the team, Cristiano Ronaldo. Of course the biggest of the awards was won by Luka Modric who clinched the title of the Best European Player Award for the last season.
This player is yet to start a game for Real Madrid this season and there were rumours of him wanting to leave the team to move elsewhere. It will be interesting to see if he gets a starting shirt against Leganes today as Real tries to remain at the top of the LaLiga table which they claimed in the last round of matches.
It is not a secret that one of the main targets for the new Real Manager is winning the LaLiga and that means winning smaller battles like that of today’s and doing so convincingly.
The visiting team go into today’s match as clear under-dogs but will fancy their chances after a draw against Real Sociedad that felt like a win for them. They will also remember that they were able to beat Madrid in the Copa del Rey last season.
The likely line-up for this game is expected to look as follows:
