A new twist has developed in the race for De Jong’s signature as LaLiga giants, Real Madrid have decided to join the long list of clubs trying to get the young Dutch midfielder to join their squads.
It is a fact that clubs like Barcelona F.C., Manchester United, Manchester City, and Tottenham Hotspurs have long indicated their wish to sign the young player who is currently on the payroll of Ajax Amsterdam.
The 21-year-old De Jong is surely now one of the most sought-after footballers in Europe and that fact has seen his stock go through a rapid rise over the past couple of months thanks mainly to his impressive performances at Ajax and the fact that he was rewarded for his fine exploits with a Netherlands senior debut earlier this month.
Of course, Barcelona F.C. are known to be in the driver’s seat as far as the race for the young midfielder’s signature is concerned but then the other contenders cannot be taken for granted especially now that a team of Real Madrid’s level has joined the race to sign De Jong.
It is reported that the Madrid team has the belief that the young player will be an ideal replacement for Mateo Kovacic who moved to Chelsea this summer.
Real Madrid are reportedly willing to pay as high as €80 million to acquire his services once the transfer window reopens in January.
