The perfect start to the Premier League season continued for Liverpool F.C. as they defeated Tottenham Hotspurs 2-1 at Wembley Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Liverpool came into the game the more serious of the two teams as they sought the first goal straight from the first minute and they actually scored a goal but it was disqualified for offside reason. Just some second later, Roberto Firmino almost scored but for Eric Dier who denied him the chance. With so much pressure from the Reds, Tottenham’s defence eventually capitulated in the 39th minute as Georginio Wijnaldum nodded home the first goal of the game.
On resumption from the break, Roberto Firmino took advantage of some shocking Tottenham defending to double the lead in the 58th minute.
By the time Erik Lamela got on the score sheet by pulling one back for Tottenham in the 90th minute, it was surely too late for any revival of fortunes for the home team.
Liverpool with this victory thus maintains its 100% start to the new season and made a solid statement of intent as far as the title race is concerned for this season.
It is now time to turn their attentions to their clash with Paris Saint Germain in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday evening.
