As far as Lionel Messi is concerned,  Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit has turned Real Madrid into a “less good” team and immediately makes Juventus to be one of the favourite teams to win the next Champions League trophy.

Cristiano Ronaldo brought his nine-year stay at Real Madrid to a shocking end when he left the club to join Juventus F.C. in a a €112million move. He had before then won 4 Ballons d’Or and also four Champions League titles with the team.

Even though Real Madrid have started the new season on a bright note without Ronaldo, Messi believes the team is no longer as solid as it was when Cristiano was there.

Messi was speaking in an interview with the Catalunya Radio when he was asked about Ronaldo’s exit from Real. He went on to say:

“[But] it’s evident that the absence of Ronaldo makes them less good and makes Juventus [one of the] clear favourites to win the Champions League.”

“It surprised me [when he left]. I didn’t imagine him leaving Madrid or joining Juventus.

“There were a lot of teams that wanted him. It surprised me, but he has gone to a very good team.”

Messi was also asked what he thought about the new players in the Barca squad. He said he is very much impressed with their performances so far and was particularly happy with the pairing of Arturo Vidal and Arthur.

He went on further to say:

“I didn’t know much about Arthur before [he joined], but he’s really similar to Xavi,” he said.

“He’s really safe and reliable [in possession]. He has the style of a player who has come through La Masia.

“He plays well over short distances, he doesn’t lose the ball. He’s got to grips really quickly with the team’s dynamic.

“Barca fans always want players with good feet. We defend with the ball. Players like Arturo Vidal are necessary.

“He’s the type of player who does everything well, with the ball and also with the muscle that he has.”
