It is always good to have your dreams come true.
Just the other day, Frenkie De Jong was just a young man who loves watching his soccer idol, Lionel Messi play in matches involving Barcelona.
Now in just a few days’ time, he will actually be training alongside his childhood idol at the Nou Camp.
He and his team mates have just had the joy of winning the Dutch League Title after narrowly missing out on making it to the finals of this year’s European Champions League Competition.
In that competition, he had the opportunity of playing against top players from Real Madrid and Juventus and even had the joy of defeating them all.
Now he is going to Barca and he is naturally not hiding the fact that he is very excited to join up with his new team mates at the Nou Camp.
Barcelona had to pay as much as 75 million euros for the services of the talented midfielder, plus an extra 11 million euros in variables, after he impressed during Ajax’s remarkable Champions League run in the first half of the season, which saw them reach the semi-finals.
He has assured the Barca fans that he won’t feel the pressure of playing for such a big club even when he is excited at the opportunity to play alongside stars like Lionel Messi in the same team.
“I’m very excited to see [Lionel] Messi during training. I think I’m only going to pass the ball to him,” De Jong laughed.
“I’m not going to change how I am; it won’t matter if I focus,” he added. “I’m curious about how I’ll perform there and I’m eager to learn from the best.”
Frenkie De Jong was at the heart of the midfield, as Ajax secured a domestic double to cap off an excellent season.
“We have a unique team for Dutch standards. We’ve had a lot of fun and we’ve had some amazing moments,” he said.
