Sergio Busquets believes that the goal scored by Dembele against Atletico in Saturday’s top LaLiga fixture will surely help the young player to settle down properly at Barcelona.
It will be recalled that the young striker has been at the center of some recent criticisms pertaining his attitude to training and his private life. There were even speculations about the possibility of his moving on from the club.
All of that was relegated to the background on Saturday as he came off the bench to salvage a point for Barca in the game against Atletico at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Diego Costa had put the home team ahead with his first LaLiga goal of the season before Barca boss Ernesto Valverde decided to introduce Dembele into the game late in the second half.
The France forward promptly rewarded his coach with a last-minute equaliser that shocked the home team and their numerous fans.
That goal kept Barcelona at the top of LaLiga at the expense of Atletico and Busquets now believes that it could be a turning point in Dembele’s career.
“This goal will come in handy, he has to adapt to both his private life and football,” Busquets told Movistar following the 1-1 draw.
“We have to help him because he’s very young and we know he can help us a lot.”
A tight match saw both sides struggle for opportunities, Costa’s goal coming from Atletico’s first corner of the match, while Barca captain Lionel Messi was quiet until he set up Dembele.
“We dominated more and we had more of the ball,” added Busquets.
“We were the ones who tried to win the most, but I think the game is fair.
“We wanted to play but it was difficult because they worked together a lot. Atletico raise their game for matches like this.”
