Football fans in London are in for a spectacular game as Chelsea F.C. go up against Liverpool F.C. in a British Premier League match that surely promises to be a cracker. This is of course, the top of the bill match for this weekend in the Premiership.
Interestingly these two teams played against each other just a few days back in the Carabao Cup Competition, with Chelsea coming out tops 2-1 in that game despite the fact that it was played in Liverpool.
This game however is a different ball game as Liverpool will want to ensure that they keep one of their nearest challengers on the league table at bay despite the fact that they will be playing away from home.
The Reds sit comfortably at the top of the table having had a perfect start to the season in all matches played so far except for the midweek cup loss. That was the first time that Jurgen Klopp’s men had tasted anything other than victory this season.
Before then, they had enjoyed seven consecutive victories in both the Premier League and UEFA Champions League.
As it stands right now, the Reds still sit top of the league with a perfect record and the best defensive record in the top flight of English football. As far their attack is concerned, the Merseysiders have also been very impressive – only Manchester City have scored more than the Reds’ 14 goals this season.
The result of this game will surely go a huge way in deciding if Klopp’s men are truly genuine title contenders.
As far team news is concerned, Liverpool still have some long-term absentees to contend with. Alex Oxlade-Chanberlain, Divock Origi and Adam Lallana are all ruled out.
Chelsea on the other hand saw their perfect start to the season come to an end with a 0-0 draw against West Ham United last time out. However, they remain unbeaten this season so far this season.
They have been able to extended their impressive unbeaten record under Maurizio Sarri. The Blues lost the Community Shield to Manchester City but since then, they have gone eight games without a loss in all competitions, including the UEFA Europa League. They presently occupy the third position on the Premier League table, only two points behind leaders Liverpool.
This match is surely a golden opportunity for them to upstage the Reds from the top of the table. It is also a fact that the Blues have won all three of their games at Stamford Bridge this season, scoring nine goals.
As far their team news are concerned, Chelsea could have a few players returning from injury for the clash against Liverpool. Central defensive duo Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen have been struggling with a groin injury and illness respectively but could potentially be ready to return to action.
It is very likely that Pedro may be called upon after getting over a shoulder injury. Ruben Loftus-Cheek has also recovered from a knock but he is unlikely to displace the likes of N’Golo Kante and Jorginho.
