27th September, 2018.
On a night when the two LaLiga giants lost their respective games away from home, (Barcelona lost away to Leganes 1-2 and Real Madrid lost to Sevilla 0-3), it is that of Real Madrid that seem to be drawing more attention than the other.
And not just attention from the fans but also from the players themselves especially Casemiro. If his comments on the match are anything to go by, the player very likely may not have been able to sleep properly since yesterday as it is very clear that he is seriously unhappy with the way Real Madrid played that match.
As far as he is concerned, the team played the first half of that match as if nothing was at stake.
Of course, it will take some serious research work to remember when last Real Madrid was three unreplied goals down in the first half of any competitive game, talk less of finally losing the match by 3-0.
That is exactly what happened to the team yesterday against Sevilla F.C. They were two goals down within 21 minutes of the game as Andre Silva scored two beautiful goals for his side, the first in the 17 minute and the second in the 21st. Before the travelling fans could understand what was happening, a third goal had been added by Wissam Ben Yedder in the 39th minute of the game.
Even at that stage, there were hopes of the European Champions League Holders making a comeback in the second half. That just did not happen as Sevilla held on to a very memorable victory over their bigger rivals.
This is the first LaLiga defeat of the season for Madrid, who surprisingly, failed to take advantage of Barcelona’s shock 2-1 loss at Leganes earlier on in the day.
With Atletico Madrid having defeated Huesca 3-0 on Tuesday, they are now just two points behind Real Madrid in third position ahead of the weekend showdown at the Santiago Bernabeu. That makes for an extra reason why that match up will be more than explosive in nature.
Coming back to Casemiro, the following is what he had to say about yesterday’s game:
“We gave away the first half. We did not play like we have played all season.”
“[Sevilla] are a very difficult opponent and, if we give away 45 minutes, this happens.”
However when the issue of the up-coming derby was brought up and he was asked whether the loss to Sevilla will make the derby more difficult, Casemiro said:
“Each game is difficult. When playing the derby at home we have to get points. They are a great rival.”
