Arsenal F.C. got one over Chelsea F.C. in a “London Derby” played in Dublin as they triumphed 6-5 in a penalty shoot-out after a tremendous 1-1 International Champions Cup match.
Interestingly, former Chelsea goalkeeper, Petr Cech proved to be the hero for Arsenal against his former team mates.
Cech compounded Alvaro Morata’s tale of woes at Chelsea by saving a penalty from the striker after a good run by Callum Hudson-Odoi in the Arsenal area had resulted in a spot kick award for the Blues after he got fouled by Hector Bellerin right inside the box.
This was typical of the first half of the game as Chelsea ran riot and created lots of opportunities but wasted most of them with Morata as the “Culprit-in-Chief”.
The only exception for the Blues was Antonio Rudiger’s fifth-minute goal which looked likely to prove the winner at the Aviva Stadium as chances upon chances went wasted.
Chelsea got punished for their wastefulness as Alexandre Lacazette struck in the 93rd minute to score a goal for Arsenal that sent the game into a penalty shoot-out session.
With both teams having scored their first five kicks, Petr Cech proved to be the winner as he guessed right and punched away a weak strike from Ruben Loftus-Cheek. It was then up to Alex Iwobi to step up to ensure that Arsenal won the game and that is exactly what happened.
Chelsea will have an opportunity to compensate their teeming fans for this loss when they go up against Manchester City in the Community Shield on Sunday.
