F.C. Chelsea Beats Mancity To Jorginho’s Signature From Napoli.

Chelsea made their first summer signing as far as players are concerned when it successfully acquired the services of Italy international Jorginho from Napoli in a deal worth about £57m thereby beating Manchester City to the signature of the midfielder.

The Brazilian-born 26-year-old Jorginho made 36 appearances for F.C. Napoli who finished second in Serie A last term. He scored four goals for Napoli last season in the Seria A.

Jorginho was also involved in Napoli’s 4-2 defeat to Man City last November and also played against England in a 1-1 friendly draw in March.

Pep Guardiola had penciled down Jorginho, who was born in Brazil, as his top target for the holding midfield role on the expiration of Yaya Toure’s contract, but Chelsea beat City to the player’s signature in a dramatic move.

Man City was understood to have agreed a £44m deal a fortnight ago for the player but apparently withdrew interest when the price rose. This paved the way for Chelsea to come into the picture strongly and offer a higher fee that Napoli accepted without wasting time.

Napoli apparently told the player’s agent that he had to accept Chelsea’s term or face being frozen out.

Man City are also said to be seriously fuming at the handling of the situation by the player’s agent Joao Santos and Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis.

This is what the player had to say to the press on what he thinks about this transfer;
